D2L’s Brightspace ranked the #1 LMS for next-gen online teaching and learning by global analyst firm Ovum; Brightspace received perfect scores for innovation, student performance and retention, and accessibility. D2L Brightspace will be on show at OEB15 in Berlin this December.

In a report issued by international industry analyst and consultancy firm Ovum , D2L and its cloud-based Brightspace learning management system (LMS) were named market leaders and received the top score for innovation. The report, Ovum Decision Matrix: Selecting an Online Learning Platform for Higher Education, 2015-16, names Brightspace as the industry’s #1 LMS for Next-Generation Teaching and Learning among online platforms for higher education.

According to the report, D2L has advanced ahead of the pack by collaborating with its customers more extensively than any other vendor. “D2L is demonstrating a commitment to the higher education industry, and is considered a partner—not just a technology partner—by several of its customers.”

The report recognises D2L for “grasp(ing) predictive analytics” in a way that none of its competitors have. It also says the company is “ahead of its competitors in addressing demand for competency-based learning and adaptive learning.”

The platforms studied in the report were measured across 15 criteria in the technology assessment. D2L’s Brightspace was the only LMS to receive perfect scores in the categories of innovation, student performance and retention, and accessibility. It was a top-ranked platform in eight categories including:

  • Accessibility
  • Customer Engagement
  • Delivery Models
  • Innovation
  • Ongoing Training and Support Services
  • Student Performance and Retention
  • Value
  • Solution Completeness

Brightspace was also the only platform ranked in all fifteen technology categories.

“This is a tremendous honor for D2L and a testament to the work our development, engagement, and support teams have done to truly listen to our customers and push the market for online learning platforms to greater heights,” said John Baker, CEO and founder of D2L. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome and we thank our customers —together, we are making a real difference in the lives of learners.”
