Ideas will flow, and productive business relationships will be forged, as senior L&D professionals and leading suppliers come together at Birmingham’s NEC on 16 & 17 October for the year’s must-attend L&D event.

The highly respected World of Learning Conference will reveal the learning strategies and solutions used by big name companies including Aviva, AstraZeneca, Mitie Group, PwC and River Island. L&D leaders from these organisations and more will share their successes and failures, and industry thought leaders and innovators will challenge ideas and incite progress.

Keynote speaker Rafal Szaniawski, former Chief Learning Officer at Deloitte Switzerland, will open the conference with his presentation: Curators vs enforcers: what’s the future of L&D?

Those looking to get support for their learning initiatives will benefit from PwC’s Head of Strategy and Capability, Catherine Pinchen as she presents: How to get what you want: working with stakeholders and the business

A lively panel debate, AI: show me the money, will see key industry practitioners and influencers exploring the value that AI can contribute to learning programmes.

Robin Hoyle will fill the post of conference Chair for the fourth consecutive year and deliver the closing keynote: Fighting fatigue: what can L&D do to energise employees around learning? Reviewing the conference programme, Robin comments:

“More than ever, the World of Learning conference will deliver a platform to demonstrate what successful organisations are doing now, today, to effectively and proficiently impact the performance of their people.

“Critically, thanks to this well thought out programme, audiences will learn how to convert good intention into good outcome and will be empowered to take action immediately.”

The conference sits alongside the Word of Learning Exhibition. Designed as a valuable platform for the exchange of knowledge and showcasing of innovative technology and services, the exhibition boasts more than 100 suppliers and a bounty of free-to-attend educational seminars and interactive features.

The extensive programme of presentations and workshops covers topics including digital learning transformation, video learning, training for the future, emotional agility, and mental health in the workplace.

Further to the main stream of presentations, the Fringe Seminars will tackle topics including leveraging neurodiversity at work to, controversially, if it’s ‘time to ditch 70/20/10 and other L&D myths’.

For those responsible for learning design, the Learning Design Live conference hosts a programme of free seminars and offers the chance to exchange ideas with industry peers.

Anyone seeking support with their apprenticeship programmes will find specialist advice and seminars at the Apprenticeship Zone. The Team Building Zone, to be facilitated by KDM Events, offers the chance to experience challenges designed to bring out team work and other crucial employee skills.

As organisations increasingly acknowledge they are operating in a VUCA world, the Experiential Learning Zone will offer bite-sized workshops to help visitors change, learn and succeed in this challenging environment.

Visitors can find solutions to the potential issue of burnout caused by rapidly changing work environments at the Agility Zone. A new feature for this year, the zone is facilitated by The Learning Architect, who will be giving away complementary copies of Liggy Webb’s book: The Little Book of Agility.

Seminars and one-to-one consultations will be offered by Jigsaw@Work in the Mental Wellbeing Zone, as their team support event visitors to discuss mental health and teach them how to create healthy workplaces and develop managers who are trained to identify employees with early signs of mental illness.

A dedicated International lounge will be hosted by ITOL, the UK’s professional body for trainers and L&D professionals. Here, guests will be able to network and find out more about ITOL and the services they provide.

Andrew Gee, Senior Project Manager at World of Learning comments: “World of Learning is the perfect opportunity for L&D professionals to step away from their day-to-day work and be inspired. They’ll leave with new ideas and connections which will make a positive impact on their people and the organisations they serve.”
