Lisa Minogue-White, Director of Learning Solutions explores the rise of corporate MOOCs and how organisations can take complex skills development online at North America's leading e-learning conference and expo.

As one of the leading providers of strategic support and development for corporate MOOCs, WillowDNA have been invited to deliver a session focussing on the lessons corporate learning can take from the MOOC movement and the key shifts in the design and delivery of complex skills as a result.

Speaking on why MOOCs have captured the attention of learning and development, Lisa says '2014 has marked a significant change – there is no doubt that the conversations I have with major organisations is taking a new direction and taking complex topics online rest at the heart of it.  The rise of MOOCs have given a concrete reference point for leaders in learning to demonstrate how time to mastery is supported through programmes that provide learning support over an appropriate time period, at a time to suit the learner.'

MOOCs and corporate academies are now becoming a topic around which learning strategy is being built.  However, the MOOC approach is not without it’s flaws.  Lack of coherent learning design, isolation of learners and high drop out rates feature often in critiques of this education phenomenon.  However, for most of these challenges, there are simple solutions, but they do require commitment, planning and attention from the learning professionals and subject matter experts in organisations.

In her conference session, Lisa will be exploring what MOOCs mean in a corporate environment, their role in the learning mix, the key skills of curation and creation, ensuring learner engagement and how to get started.

There is a fantastic line up at this year's DevLearn conference and Expo and with keynote speakers like Neil deGrasse Tyson, the exploration of the 'New Learning Universe' it's set to be one of the most exciting DevLearn conferences yet: October 29 – 31, 2014, Las Vegas, NV.
