Virtual College donates five percent of its turnover from Safeguarding children online courses. A recent example of this is a donation of £1,500 to Streetlife, a youth work charity.

Streetlife was established in 1982, with the aim of assisting vulnerable young people in the Blackpool area. They will use this funding to provide three residential training sessions for eight young people at a time, providing intensive, meaningful experiences for a total of 24 young people.

“We are thrilled that Virtual College has been able to support our work,” said Jane Hugo, Streetlife CEO.

“We really value donations such as these, especially during this period of austerity.”

During the weekend, the young people will be involved in planning, budgeting, cooking, and cleaning, helping them to develop their communication, relationship and life skills as well as developing their confidence. More structured learning sessions will also take place during the course of the weekend covering topics such as anger management and first aid.

The young people will be encouraged to access further learning opportunities once the residential period has finished. They can access basic accredited lifeskills training twice a week at the day centre and also complete weekly training sessions to achieve certificates in health and safety, first aid and manual handling.

“These certificates and the experience of the training will raise self-esteem and help the young people to perform better in interviews,” commented Jane.
