Founder members of the Housing e-Academy’s new Tenant Plus co-operative will help shape the future of tenant training within the UK housing sector when they come together to agree on a blueprint for the delivery of tenant training via the Internet.

Since being established in 2006, the Housing e-Academy, a standalone division of online training pioneer the Virtual College, based in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, has grown to become one of the sector leaders in the delivery of e-learning to housing providers.

It now has a strong member network of housing associations and ALMOs (arm’s length management organisations) throughout the UK.

Seeking to further drive forward adoption of e-learning within the housing sector, the Housing e-Academy has launched its new Tenant Plus package.

Originally designed in response to a request by Housing e-Academy member and Housing Corporation gold award winner, Accent Group Ltd, the Tenant Plus package can be adapted to meet the needs of all organisations within the housing sector.

“Tenant Plus is purpose-designed to enable housing providers to offer their residents the opportunity to build confidence, improve their IT literacy and develop transferable skills that will put them ahead of the competition when applying for jobs,” said Housing e-Academy Manager Chloe Weatherhead.

The e-Academy is currently recruiting a maximum of 15 Tenant Plus founder members and has already confirmed the involvement of Doncaster-based St Leger Homes, which manages some 21,000 homes for Doncaster Council and has just become one of only 15 housing organisations in the country to be awarded prestigious Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS) accreditation.

Founder members are due to meet in Leeds on September 7 to pioneer three new e-learning courses. These will then be unveiled to all UK housing providers at a national launch event early next year.

Chloe explained: “Our founder members will enjoy immediate access to a fully branded self registration process and three existing e-learning modules. They will also have an opportunity to be directly involved in the development of three new tenant specific e-learning courses, due to be released January, as part of the Tenant Plus co-operative –and will receive the new modules free of charge while they remain members.

“The delivery of e-learning is both straight forward and highly flexible, and the courses can be accessed via any internet-enabled computer. Each course takes around two hours to complete, though tenants can dip in and out of courses around other commitments and work at a pace that suits their individual style.”
