Entries are now being invited for the 2nd annual Lean Healthcare Academy's Awards for Excellence in November. Sponsorship opportunies for the prestigious healthcare event are also available.

The Lean Healthcare Academy is to stage its second annual exhibition and awards for excellence at the Royal Armouries, Leeds, on Thursday, November 12.

Last year’s inaugural awards proved a tremendous success, both recognising and rewarding the work undertaken by the academy’s healthcare sector members in adopting and implementing Lean working practices as a foundation stone for sustainable service transformation across the NHS.

Now, with the Ilkley-based academy’s membership having grown to 26, competition for the prestigious awards will be keen in 2009. With new awards categories added – 12 in total this year - there are also more opportunities for non-members to participate.

Lean Healthcare Academy manager Wendy Gauntley said: “This year, we are doubling capacity and offering more opportunities to network, to see and share best practice and to bring real time and cost benefits to healthcare providers. It is set to be one of the essential healthcare events of the year.”

Awards categories are:
· Lean Healthcare Academy-supported Project of the Year (members only).
· Independent Project of the Year (open to members and non-members) - the best overall projects from the past 12 months completed either with the support of the Lean Healthcare Academy, or independently.
· Best Impact on Patient Experience (members only) - achievements which focus on the core aim of Lean Healthcare, to provide an excellent and ever-improving service for the service user.
· Productive Series Award (members & non-members) - organisations that have made the most progress towards embedding the principles of Lean via the Productive Series Initiative.
· NVQ Project of the Year (members only) - projects which have been implemented through the application of the knowledge and skills gained during the Business Improvement Techniques NVQ.
· Facilitators Choice (members only) – chosen by Lean Healthcare Academy facilitators from year-long activity and recognising special achievements.
· Organisation of the Year (members only) - the most significant strategic progress in the adoption of Lean.
· Lean Champion of the Year (members only) – the individual who has made the greatest progress as a proponent of Lean and had the most significant individual impact.
· Outstanding Contribution to Improving Services (members only) - a person or team who have truly transformed their service to reflect the needs of service users.
· Innovation Award (members only) – the person or team who can demonstrate how an innovative idea has improved the delivery of services for service users or staff.
· Best Sustained Project (members only) - any person or team who, having implemented change for improvement, has sustained those changes over a period of time.
· Peoples Choice - voted for on the day by event attendees, selected from the poster displays and discussions with participants.
