Healthcare professionals across the UK are being offered a free slimming course.

The early Christmas present comes courtesy of the West Yorkshire-based Lean Healthcare Academy, leaders in the field of training, implementation and sustaining improvement activities across the whole health economy.

The academy has released its newly developed Lean Healthcare Overview e-module, said to represent a practical introduction to Lean, the philosophy and tools involved. It normally costs £34.50 per user, but the healthcare profession is being given free access.

Lean Healthcare Academy manager Wendy Gauntley explains: “The e-learning course shows how best Lean practice widely used in manufacturing can be applied successfully in primary and secondary care, as well as across wider health and social care communities.

“Lean is all about shedding wasteful practices and streamlining patient pathways. It is making a real difference right across the NHS.

“Healthcare professionals not currently involved in Lean can now learn how to become Lean machines by stripping fitter in their organisations through our free ‘weight-loss’ programme!”

The free module, aimed at anyone working in the health and social care sector who would like an overview of Lean, can be accessed at www.leanhealthcareacademy.co.uk
