More than 1000 senior level IT specialists from Capgemini's global organization will initially be certified as IT Specialists to ensure that they meet or exceed the rigorous worldwide standards for professional expertise and experience as established by a consortium of globally recognized industry leaders.

"The combination of globalization and a turbulent business environment is driving both organizations and individuals to seek out professional differentiators that set them apart in the marketplace and guarantee their success in increasingly boundaryless environments," said Allen Brown, CEO for The Open Group. "Accrediting Capgemini to use the ITSC program to validate the skills and experience of their IT Specialists around the world is not only a great honor for The Open Group, but also ensures that organizations receive the most highly qualified professionals who possess not only proven skills but relevant experiences available in the global marketplace."

According to Ron Tolido, Chief Technology Officer, Capgemini, Nederland B.V., "Our services are often delivered in a worldwide, distributed context. Increasingly we will be staffing our projects from multiple sources, potentially both from inside and outside the organization, as well as from multiple continents and suppliers. Envision a complex network of partners, alliances, providers, clients and even competitors. To thrive in this boundaryless environment, it is paramount to have a standardized view of the skills, experiences and competencies of the IT specialists involved. The ITSC accreditation program will help organizations find and select the right resources, and it is even more relevant now that regulatory compliance demands demonstrable quality of service."

The ITSC program was developed in response to a variety of emerging business and technology trends including:
• The increasing speed of technological innovation demanding greater agility in IT implementations
• The globalization of IT initiatives, resource allocation and sourcing, and the collaboration thus required among and between diverse teams
• The escalating reliance on IT Specialists' ability to develop and deliver ever-more complex solutions
• The manifest need to distinguish those professionals who are most competent and experienced.

Unlike certification programs that only require examinations for individuals to be certified, the IT Specialist certification program is unique in the industry because it requires those certified not only to have proven and acquired skills within their discipline, but also years of proven experience. Two levels of certification for IT Specialists are available, depending on the length and characteristics of their experience - Level 1, Certified IT Specialist or Level 2, Master Certified IT Specialist. Once accredited, a professional's credentials can be verified online, and The Open Group maintains a secure listing of all IT Specialists currently certified.
