Following the recent landmark announcement of the partnership between Microsoft and Novell, many companies will be considering migrating from Red Hat to SUSE Linux. While the versions of Linux have a great deal in common, there are a number of different features with which administrators will need to become familiar.

To support this change QA-IQ, a Novell Global Centre of Excellence for Linux, has launched Novell's unique migration course. The three-day course will enable experienced Linux administrators familiar with RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 to transfer their skills to the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 platform, while also providing preparation for the Novell CLP 10 Practicum exam that allows certification as a Novell Certified Linux Professional 10.

QA-IQ's Principal Technologist for Novell, Andrew Mallett, explains; "There are a number of tools and management facilities that differentiate SUSE from Red Hat, and it's important that administrators are confident about their new system. In recognition of the experience that Red Hat Administrators will bring to the course, additional topics are included that are not part of the Novell CLP 10 certification, but are of importance in migration scenarios, like iSCSI, OCFS, or specific differences in mail or web server configuration.

"We are seeing a number of our customers moving across to SUSE Linux, as it provides a cost-effective model for and enterprise system. This is particularly the case where customers have a strong technical support function - and therefore it's critical that skills are brought up to speed quickly."

The Migrating from RedHat to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 course covers a broad range of topics, including installation, configuring mail and web services, managing virtualisation with Xen and understanding cluster file systems. Running from May until December 2007, the course is delivered by QA-IQ's experienced Novell instructors. Call 0870 90 600 90, email [email protected] or visit www.qa-iq.com for more information.
