QA and CompTIA Push the Need for More Security Training With Certification Deal.
QA, the UK’s leading provider of training and consulting, announced today that it has chosen to use the CompTIA (The Computing Technology Industry Association) Security+ certification to help increase the security content of its IT training courses.

Every QA technical instructor will train for and undertake the Security+ examination in order to achieve the certification. QA will then be able to offer a security skills training programme for security specialists and include more security-specific subject matter across all the IT courses it runs.

“21% of companies have experienced at least one severe cyber attack in the past six months . The recent increase in security threats and feedback from our clients show that, for all IT professionals, basic security management skills are essential,” commented Thomas Lee, Chief Technologist at QA. “Security is a core component of QA’s training portfolio, both as a specialist programme and as a feature of all our technical courses. For us, CompTIA has defined the skills baseline for security - Security+ is the only independent, global certification in security fundamentals”.

QA’s 80 principal technologists and technical instructors will study for and obtain the Security+ certification during 2003. As a result, all students taking a QA IT training course will benefit from a better understanding of the IT security market and the pervasive nature of security. Through this, qualified students will be able to offer more to potential employees through their understanding of the security space.

“In today’s market, every organisation is a target for cybercrime,” explains Matthew Poyiadgi, Regional Director UK & Scandinavia at CompTIA. “The issue for companies surrounding security has always been that there is simply not enough awareness when addressing IT security issues. By using Security+ certification to include more security focused material in IT training courses, QA is placing valuable emphasis on addressing this issue within the sector”.

Security+ is an independent, globally recognised benchmark certification providing IT professionals with a recognised industry credential that provides proof of knowledge and expertise in security-related topics. CompTIA developed Security+ on behalf of the industry with resources and guidance provided by a panel of CompTIA members including Microsoft, Verisign, Sun Microsystems, RSA Security, the FBI, IBM/Tivoli Software and the US Secret Service. This provides a comprehensive examination which tests them on a wide range of security concepts, including access control, authentication, and external attack.
