The Medical University of South Carolina has partnered with NetDimensions to better manage learning and provide content-related services for more than 18,000 learners across the organization.

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), one of the nation’s top academic health science centers, has partnered with NetDimensions to better manage learning and provide content-related services for more than 18,000 learners across the organization.

MUSC has grown from a small private medical school, founded in 1824, into a statewide health system with a 700-bed medical center (MUSC Health) and six colleges (Dental Medicine, Graduate Studies, Health Professions, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy). MUSC also provides residency training for more than 500 graduate health professionals. The teaching staff is composed of more than 1,500 full and part-time faculty.

MUSC needed a more robust Learning Management System (LMS). Their previous learning solution had significant limitations for reporting and managing user groups. Accessibility was also limited to certain Internet browsers and devices.

The MUSC team gathered requirements and input from LMS stakeholders across the organization, such as training, human resources, IT, HRIS, clinical education, and compliance.  After an extensive, formal review of LMS vendors, MUSC selected NetDimensions Learning.

“We have extensive reporting needs that NetDimensions Learning was able to meet,” said Albany Cromer, Learning Technologies Manager at MUSC. “With the new LMS, we now offer a variety of training catalogs, based on areas of interest. We also added social learning with access to resources found on the Internet. And MUSC can now offer learning and education to the community thanks to our new platform – something we were not previously able to do.”

MUSC also engaged NetDimensions Interactive, the company’s content services team, to bring a consistent style and branding to their learning development efforts across the organization. NetDimensions’ content experts built a set of starter templates for PowerPoint and Adobe Captivate to accelerate internal learning development. This provided MUSC with a framework to build new courses in an enhanced design in both PowerPoint and Captivate and a path to migrate existing content into the newly designed templates.

"The healthcare sector continues to see significant growth,” said Ken Wright, President of NetDimensions Healthcare. “We are proud to partner with forward-thinking organizations like MUSC and help them deliver the critical training their learners need."
