Classroom disruptors: what can we learn from education's tech debate?
Investors pumped $1.1 billion into the ed-tech market last year; roughly double the amount invested in 2007. New education technology is creating opportunities for engaging the ever-connected student who increasingly lives online. From e-textbooks to game-based learning, these teaching methods are giving pupils extra incentives to immerse themselves in their studies.
But as the speed of innovation surges, some technology-enhanced learning companies are encountering roadblocks: tech-wary educators, perplexing bureaucratic procedures and conflicting evidence of efficacy have put a damper on growth, even as governments are increasingly eager to subsidise education’s digital transformation.
The ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN (OEB) 2013 programme features a number of hands-on and interactive sessions that take a look at some of the challenges facing the adoption of educational technology today. Attendees will learn about real-world, practical examples of technology-supported learning and training, as well as how institutions are overcoming challenges along the way to full endorsement. From navigating public-private partnerships to overcoming staff reluctance, participants will learn how to become successful instigators of change at their respective institutions.
ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN is the largest global e-learning conference for the corporate, education and public service sectors, featuring 400 speakers and more than 2,000 participants from over 100 countries. This year’s conference, to be held at Berlin’s Hotel InterContinental will welcome industry experts from institutions like UNESCO, the European Commission, Toyota, Adidas, the Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition to seminars and workshops, the conference will also feature learning cafes, collaboration sessions, discussions, debates and ‘learnshops’. This year’s theme – ‘Learning Moves’ – focuses on how technology and change can play an inspirational role in promoting creativity and innovation.
