How hardware video encoders help schools: Epiphan Video at OEB 2019

Epiphan Video’s David Kirk will break down the benefits of hardware encoders for colleges and universities at the OEB 2019 seminar, Epiphan: Hardware Video Encoders – What You Need to Know. Raphael Löhle of the SAE Institute will share how the institution is leveraging encoder hardware across its many campuses.

The video in education trend shows no signs of slowing. On November 28, Epiphan Video Marketing VP David Kirk will explain how hardware encoders can help colleges and universities do video better at a free OEB 2019 seminar.

“Schools today are using video in all sorts of ways,” says Kirk. “Whether it’s lecture capture, campus event live streaming, or student video assignments, schools can do it better with hardware encoding.”

A hardware encoder is an appliance purpose-built for video streaming, capturing, recording, or all three. The alternative is a software encoder, an application for video recording or streaming that runs on computer hardware. Schools that opt for hardware encoders reap significant advantages in video production reliability, performance, flexibility, and affordability.

Kirk will share real examples of how Epiphan customers in education are using and benefiting from hardware encoders. Attendees will also hear firsthand from an Epiphan customer. Raphael Löhle of the SAE Institute will share how the institution is using Epiphan Pearl encoder hardware across its many campuses.

“The SAE Institute offers a great example of what schools can gain from hardware encoders,“ Kirk says. “A big one is enhanced reliability. Reliability is critical in any fleet management situation but especially when that fleet is spread out over multiple campuses. The right hardware encoder could save institutions hundreds of IT hours over its lifecycle.”

The free seminar, Epiphan: Hardware Video Encoders – What You Need to Know, will also cover the benefits of hardware encoder integration with content management systems like Panopto and Kaltura, and learning management systems like Blackboard and Canvas.

OEB 2019 runs from November 27 to 29 at Germany’s Hotel InterContinental Berlin. Attendees can visit Stand F50 to learn more about Epiphan’s suite of reliable, user-friendly AV solutions and to talk everything video in education. Private meetings can be arranged by emailing [email protected].
