Promoting freelance elearning skills to a wider marketplace

Berkshire, UKLearning Newsmylearningworx

New event in London to shine spotlight on elearning creative talent.

mylearningworx, the UK’s crowd sourced hub for online learning, has had to increase the size of its first worxsmiths cohort expectations for elearning freelancers as demand has exceeded initial demand. The event, to be held next Wednesday 9 July, in central London, will focus on how elearning freelancers’ skills can be promoted and enhanced to a wider marketplace.

The initiative will enable independent providers such as project managers, instructional designers and developers to offer new services and access new opportunities through mylearningworx’s crowd sourcing approach.

Martin Belton, managing director of mylearningworx explains, ‘The cohort will look at ways freelancers and other elearning professionals can create their own crowd to improve their opportunities by sharing knowledge and resources.’

'Though it’s true that we have been bowled over by the response, in some ways it is hardly surprising. As an industry we seem to spend our lives worrying endlessly about learning theories, tools, methodologies, big data and other variables that simply aren’t as important as the people that create the learning. We believe we need to be more like other creative based industries  - and properly search for, support and promote existing and new talent. The reality is that it is the designers and the creative developers that really make the difference. The worxsmiths cohort intends to do just that.’

Attendees will also hear from crowd sourcing entrepreneur, Neill McWilliams of mymarvellousbusinessidea and will explore new ways of collaborating, sharing resources and creating cost savings.

The cohort is open to freelancers and small businesses involved in providing services across all areas of elearning. It is a free event from 10.30am – 2.30pm on Wednesday 9 July 2014 in Covent Garden in London. Further details can be found on the mylearningworx blog.
