Sector Skills Councils use online learning to recruit and train women in industry

A web-based system developed by learning technology provider MyKnowledgeMap (MKM) to help raise recruitment levels and provide training in sectors where women are under-represented has been adopted by a second Sector Skills Council.
Automotive Skills, the Council for the retail motor industry has commissioned the system to handle administration of its Women and Work Sector Pathways Initiative.
Women working in the retail motor sector can register their interest online, quickly and easily, using the system which then captures details needed by Automotive Skills, and allows individuals to access custom training plans.
The food and drink Sector Skills Council, Improve is already using a similar system to enable women working in food and drink manufacturing to register for a level three Introductory Certificate in Management.
The Council’s Adult Learning remit engages employers to assist staff in improving basic skills, provide opportunities to acquire new skills and knowledge, wherever possible through access to public funding, such as Train to Gain and Women in Work.
Other key areas are careers, 14-19 year old provision, management and leadership, and sector qualification strategy.
York-based MKM has broad experience of working with Sector Skills Councils, primarily as a provider of virtual academy platforms for managing skills and competencies across industry sectors including food & drink manufacturing, sport & active leisure, care, and retail.
