Institute and BCS form new collaborative alliance
The British Computer Society (BCS) and the Institute of IT Training have announced a new alliance to work in collaborative projects to enhance and develop the reputation of IT professionals and IT trainers, and champion the effective exploitation and use of IT in all areas of commerce and industry.
BCS President David Morriss said at the recent press conference held at the National Computing Centre's new London offices: "The BCS acknowledges the Institute of IT Training as the professional body for IT training professionals and its certification and accreditation schemes, as well as the e-GIF Accreditation Authority as the accrediting body for knowledge of and compliance with UK public sector interoperability standards."
"The BCS and the IITT agree to work collaboratively in support of their members (corporate and individual) in the professionalisation of all aspects of the provision and operation of IT systems, the development of the IT profession and its attractiveness as a career, and in support of the UK government's aim to be an exemplar of professionalism and best practice".
Colin Steed, chief executive of the IITT said: "We are delighted to be working collaboratively with the BCS and we are currently exploring ways where we can both increase the benefits to our respective membership."
Steed said that the announcement of an alliance between the two professional bodies was a wonderful start to the Institute of IT Training's 10th year of operation, which will culminate in November with a 10th Anniversary Dinner.
"We have come a very long way in a relatively short time and are now recognised by Government, industry and commerce as the professional body for training professionals. Our Accreditation Schemes for training providers and corporate training departments, our unique Trainer Certification Programmes, our standards in training and development, our National Trainers Conference and of course our IT Training Awards are now recognised throughout the country," he said. "This year we shall be announcing some more exciting development plans that will take the IITT into Europe. All of this is not a bad achievement in just 10 years from start up."
