Institute breaks new ground

The Institute of IT Training (IITT) is breaking new ground by organising its first conference. The conference, which focuses on the changing role of the trainer along with practical issues that face today's training professional, takes place at the Stratford Manor, Stratford-upon-Avon on Tuesday 20th May.

After a keynote address by Clive Shepherd, director of e-learning at the IITT, the conference splits into two streams: the instructor-led training (ILT) stream, chaired by Alan Bellinger, consultant editor of IT Training magazine, and the e-learning stream, chaired by Peter Williams, editor of E-Learning Age magazine.

Colin Steed, chief executive of the IITT, explained: "In the keynote address, Clive Shepherd will discuss the radically changing role of the trainer in today's business environment.

"The ILT stream explores such issues as promoting creativity in the classroom; determining the business value of training projects, and the relative benefits of developing materials in-house or outsourcing them.

"The e-learning stream investigates the optimal blend of face-to-face and online learning; matching e-learning preferences to personality types; ways to increase participation in, and completion of, e-learning programmes, and developing effective e-trainer skills," he continued.

"The conference concludes with a Round Table Discussion - entitled, 'Where next for training professionals?' - involving a panel of experts and chaired by Clive Shepherd."

Steed added: "We have been working hard to keep the fees as low as possible so that practising trainers can afford to come. We are well aware that they have to squeeze every last drop from their budgets, so charging 'normal' conference fees will be out of the question.

"So, we are looking at £165 for institute members and £225 for non-members for a top quality, one day conference, packed with real-world, practical solutions that are relevant to every trainer and training manager today."

About the IITT Conference
The conference takes place on Tuesday 20th May at the Stratford Manor Hotel, Strattford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, and is intended for practising training professionals and training managers. It will focus on the changing role of the trainer, new methods and thinking for the training role, and practical issues that face today's training professional.

There will be two concurrent streams, focusing on the classroom and blended learning. No vendors or suppliers will be asked to give presentations.

A small accompanying exhibition will comprise five stands of value to the training professional - featuring such things as training aids, training games and training books -as well as five rooms to demonstrate systems for trainers, including LobsterOnline, Infobasis Skills Matching and Centra.

The conference will conclude with a Delegate Reception where delegates can relax with a drink and network with their peers.

IITT members can attend the conference for £165. Non-members may attend for £245.
