Learning NewsKineo

A blended learning programme created by Barclays, a City & Guilds Kineo client, was recognised at this year’s Learning Awards, scooping a Bronze Award.

The learning and development community’s top performing organisations and individuals gathered on 5 February to celebrate the 19th annual Learning Awards, created and hosted exclusively by Learning and Performance Institute.

City & Guilds Kineo joined forces with their client Barclays to submit to the Learning Technologies Award category. The category aims to display how learning technologies can transform an organisation’s learning. Barclays have embarked on an ambitious process of culture change, using their learning curriculum as the lynchpin. Together with City & Guilds Kineo they showcased a successful, best-in-class learning curriculum designed to create a learner-led blend of learning for over 135,000 employees. This innovative programme received a Bronze Award at the ceremony.

With a record number of submissions from individuals and organisations from across the world, winners were selected by demonstrating exceptional vision and depth in providing learning solutions with a proven business impact. Recognising success across 14 categories, judges worked through hundreds of submissions to select the winners.

Speaking of Barclays’ and City & Guilds Kineo’s recent award win, Account Director Rory Lawson comments:

This award win is testament to Barclays’ on-going commitment to their learners; ensuring learning technology is always empowering and enabling them to have better learning experiences. It’s amazing to see the impact this curriculum has had on instigating change within Barclays. We’re [City & Guilds Kineo] absolutely delighted to have supported them, alongside their other design partners, in this project. We’re equally happy to see their hard work recognised by this award win.”

Barclays’ Award-Winning Colleague Curriculum

The Colleague Curriculum is designed to help everyone develop core skills. A curated learning journey or dip in and out – an up-to-you approach. The solution has 5 key facets which make it highly innovative from a Barclays’ standpoint:

  1. ‘Social Media’ Inspired Design: Via an innovative Microsoft Powered SharePoint solution and accessible as part of the company intranet, not as a separate system
  2. Content Excellence: It had to be the best. It could not feel generic. So it’s designed by business schools, academics, technologists and learning professionals to deliver insightful and meaningful learning that can be immediately applied
  3. On-Demand Resources: A resource-driven approach that’s self-paced, focused, standalone and accessible at point of need
  4. All Things Inclusive and Accessible: Everyone needed to benefit. So the project was guided by standards which led to specific learning technologies and approaches being selected. All learning is designed to AA WCAG standards and relevant for all cultures
  5. True Partnership: A partnership between Barclays and all vendors - together we answered the question – ‘How do we deliver this project as a partnership?’

The curriculum focuses on quality rather than quantity. The learning had to be delivered to strict guidelines and tested to AA WCAG standards, and work for a global audience.
