IMI member Richard Perriman scoops UK Top Technician title

Richard Perriman AMIMI, a technician at Martin Pilley Services in Hampshire has been crowned UK Top Technician 2009.

Richard was announced as the winner of the prestigious competition at an awards ceremony at the GEA Aftermarket Technical Workshop in Watford.

Another IMI member, John Tinham MIMI from John Tinham Motor Engineer in Chelmsford finished in third place.

Richard beat technicians from across the UK in a series of online, practical and written tests assessing every aspect of his technical knowledge and all the tests were marked to Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) standards.

Commenting on his achievement, Richard said: “Top Technician has been a great experience for me. I've learned so much from putting my technical knowledge to the test in a competition environment and I am so happy to have won."

Richard picked up prizes worth more than £10,500 following his victory, thanks to the competition sponsors, Bosch, Comma, Euro Car Parts, NGK, SACHS and Snap-on. The IMI have also agreed to pay for the three finalists to go through an ATA assessment in their chosen route as an added reward for their success in the competition.

Ian Gillgrass, Accreditation Manager at the IMI and chief judge at Top Technician said: "Our congratulations go to all three of the finalists who have pitted their skills against the nation's best technicians and well done to the winner Richard Perriman. They are all great ambassadors for the motor industry and we hope that this recognition will really help them with their respective businesses."
