Accreditation scheme gets on the grid at Brands Hatch

The Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme will be exhibiting at the British Superbike Championship taking place at Brands Hatch from 7th to 9th August.

Over the course of the three day event, staff from The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) which regulates the scheme, will be on hand to inform the many visitors expected at the circuit about the national consumer campaign ‘You know you’re OK with ATA’ and the benefits of technician accreditation.

The ATA stand can be found within the Honda (UK) Village at the Championship.

Launched in 2005, ATA is a national, voluntary scheme designed to test the current competency of technicians working in the sector and now covers eight different disciplines including motorcycles. The motorcycle route was developed by leading motorcycle and scooter manufacturers in association with the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA) and the IMI.

The campaign aims to boost recognition of the ATA brand among consumers and encourage businesses employing ATA registered technicians to maximise their involvement in the scheme to help the industry improve public perceptions.

Nigel Beaven, Head of Communications at the IMI said:

“Bringing ATA to the British Superbike Championship is an excellent opportunity for us to further promote the scheme and our thanks go to Honda (UK) for allowing us to exhibit alongside them. Motorcycles and scooters are becoming increasingly sophisticated and complex so being able to identify a competent, accredited technician through ATA is more important than ever. We want consumers to understand that “You Know you’re OK with ATA.”

Over 17,000 technicians across the UK have achieved accreditation and carry ATA photo ID cards. Accreditation is currently valid for five years before registered technicians have to be re-tested.
