Nashua, a leading manufacturer and distributor of digital office automation equipment in Southern Africa, has implemented a blended learning programme with gtslearning, using instructor-led courseware, LabSim self-paced study tools and CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications, to update its field service engineers' skills in the converging technologies of office automation and computing.

Mr Braam Venter, Head of Technology Division, Nashua South Africa explained: "Our new range of digital networked printers and copiers and our consultancy-driven approach to customer service and support was imposing new demands on our workforce. Our engineers needed a new set of skills to deal with the convergence in office automation and computing technology, including skills in PC support, networks and print servers. We had to create a ground-up learning plan for our business that met this challenge alongside a wide geographic distribution of our staff."

"We identified that the CompTIA A+ and Network+ certification programmes would provide the core of our reskilling project and it was CompTIA that helped us to identify suitable partners, including gtslearning, to work with to develop and implement this critical programme."

"In early 2006, gtslearning was appointed to provide the necessary training content tools for the project. In addition to its instructor-led courseware gtslearning's LabSim interactive study tool was used, providing hands-on simulations, video-based multimedia instruction and exam preparation. Nashua's engineers took part in practical classroom sessions whilst studying the certification objectives from their homes at their own pace, wherever they were located in the region."

Robin Adda, Managing Director of gtslearning commented: "We were delighted to have been selected for this project and are equally pleased to see Nashua employees successfully completing their certification. Our LabSim products are proving to be a very popular alternative to conventional classroom training and traditional online learning, as they provide flexible blended learning options for education centres."

Braam Venter added: "The results to date are extremely positive. Our engineers are successfully passing certification exams and, for the first time, we don't have to fly engineers in from remote parts of the region to attend conventional training classes. We're looking forward to continuing to work on this project with the people at gtslearning."
