Reduced spending on security education leaves organisations open to attack

A recent report by CSO Magazine Security Sensor states that security education is now only the third most important priority for security chiefs this year. Cost of education is believed to be a major factor.

A report from US-based CSO (Chief Security Officer) Magazine Security Sensor has shown that business resilience and disaster recovery have replaced education as the top corporate security priority.

Robin Adda, Managing Director of GTSLearning, an education solutions provider, has attacked this policy:
“Maintaining security in business is of paramount concern to all. New threats, such as mobile network worms, are appearing continually. Every single worker in every kind of organisation needs to have a fundamental awareness of security threats and responses and ongoing education is essential for survival. Increasing spend on disaster recovery is just fixing a problem that shouldn’t have happened in the first place”.

GTSLearning has recently introduced a low-cost online learning library with content for workers at every level of an organisation, providing learning from the most basic disciplines to the security implementation professional.
This programme gives access to 28 course modules, with many leading to key IT security certifications. Technical content ranges from Network Security Fundamentals and Security Awareness to Network Defence and Countermeasures. Certifications supported include the new Certified Ethical Hacker from the EC-Council, CompTIA’s Security+ Certification, Certified Information Systems Security Professional and the Security Certified Network Professional.

Adda continued:“We feel very strongly about security. One major, unrecoverable security breach could be all it takes to bring a business to its knees and damage its reputation irreparably. Our Online Security Library is a low-cost, yet effective and proactive solution to protect business continuity.”
