Is VR training the real thing?

LondonLearning Newse-Learning Studios

Initial qualitative results will be released at LT18 of the collaborative VR training study between VR Learning Studio, GKR Scaffolding and the University of Twente, to determine whether VR training is more effective than traditional training methods.

GKR Scaffolding wanted to assess whether by being exposed to the consequences of risk, operatives would be more risk averse when working at height, which is the most dangerous category of work on a construction site with serious consequences that cannot be recreated in the real world.

So, they enlisted VR Learning Studio to create a VR building site to see if operatives experienced and felt the consequences of their actions, on themselves, their colleagues and the public to see if it would create behavioural change.

The training is a mixture of hazard awareness and technical training, managed by a Data Analytics System (DAS) that allows GKR to manage the learners and monitor their progress. This data is then fed anonymously to the University of Twente for 'A Study into the Effectiveness of VR Training', which looks not only its effectiveness, but how it can also be optimised.

LT18 visitors will be able to try out the GKR VR training along with others created for the BBC, Financial Times and Roche to experience the power of VR training.

LT18 visitors wishing to get a copy of the preliminary and full studies when published, can leave their contact details with VR Learning Studio on Stand 07.
