How games inspire, enthral and engage - making learning irresistible and invaluable: Gamification+’s Pete Jenkins and PSA Peugeot’s Phillip Price at the Learning Technologies Conference, 1 and 2 February, London.

“Games are addictive in ways that digital learning programmes – sadly – are not. But it needn't be that way. Gamification continues to be a hot topic in learning and the conference has handed the task of explaining how how we can make learning irresistible to two leading figures in games and learning: Gamification+’s Pete Jenkins and PSA Peugeot’s Phillip Price,” said Learning Technologies Conference Chair, Donald H Taylor.

In the first half of the session, Pete Jenkins will explore the enduring, addictive nature of games, and then Phillip Price will show how he put these principles into practice at PSA Peugeot Citroën in creating a digital learning programme with demonstrable business impact.

“How can games help engage an audience? How to identify players and what games will most appeal to them? Pete will help the conference to learn about adding game elements to the L&D toolbox and delegates will take away a strategy for innovating existing processes through gamification,” added Taylor.

In Pete Jenkins’ session:

  • Identify which player types you need to inspire
  • Learn what effect demographics should have on your choice of game mechanics
  • Discover game elements that will enthral your players
  • Explore new strategies for engagement through the lens of games

“For Phillip Price, learning is all about demonstrable business impact. That’s why he’s added game elements to the digital learning at Citroën and Peugeot. Using badges, points, rewards and other elements he has shown a direct correlation between systems use and key business metrics such as improved customer satisfaction and mystery shopper feedback,” explained Taylor.

Pete and Phillip’s session on games and learning takes place on day two of the Learning Technologies Conference. The conference runs alongside the Learning Technologies Exhibition and forms the most important annual event for learning and development professionals in Europe. Pete Jenkins is an international speaker, adviser and trainer in Gamification. Pete took the number one spot on the "Gamification Gurus Power 100" in February 2016. Pete founded his company GAMIFICATION+ LTD in 2000. He has since advised and trained companies of all sizes, both in the UK and internationally, on the use of Gamification. Phillip Price has been at PSA Peugeot Citroen, almost all his working life, and has been in charge of the Academy for over four years. His principle responsibilities include the global role out of the Virtual Academy initiative, the day to day running of all Academy sites, contract management, resourcing, syllabus management & apprenticeship programme, as well as managing a team of training professionals. The Academy has just launched a rejuvenated commercial training syllabus, built from the ground up, and supported by a bespoke competency assessment to ensure Peugeot Citroen has the right people delivering the right service to all customers.
