Personal benefits trump environmental issues for workers in the cloud
UK staff are currently more interested in the personal benefits that cloud computing can bring to the office than they are in the technology’s potential to address corporate scale environmental issues, according to new figures emerging from a soon-to-be released study on the web’s role in the workplace.
Produced collaboratively by business training provider REDTRAY and benchmarking organisation Towards Maturity, the new study collates the thoughts, opinions and intentions of over 180 Learning and Development professionals across the UK.
When asked about particular benefits that staff wanted their company’s cloud computing strategy to deliver, up to 65% pointed to personal benefits like ability to improve in-company training or better access to new learning and information within the workplace. Less than 5 in 10 respondents thought that the company’s internal Internet strategy should be focused on achieving carbon reduction goals.
But the new findings do not suggest that big corporates are becoming less focused on environmental issues says REDTRAY’s Managing Director Vicky Jones: “Together with reducing company travel costs and minimising time wasted away from the office, our study’s findings indicate that carbon reduction has been one of the early goals for companies when they first started to move staff support online. Now many early adopters have achieved these initial goals and are looking at ways of extending the web’s influence to deliver further benefits in areas like skills’ shortages or flexible working”
Issued today as part of the build-up to October’s 'Harnessing Live Online Learning' activities, the new finding is just one one of dozens of new facts, figures, statistics and insights scheduled for public release next month when the new study is published.
