Future trends, motivating the younger workforce and workplace design are just some of the industry topics covered in a series of seminars of a renowned L&D event.

The World of Learning which takes place on 29 and 30 September at Birmingham’s NEC is set to offer a packed programme of free seminars available to all attendees. Visitors can gain insight from industry experts on key issues including e-learning, leadership and engagement.

Crossrail’s head of organisational effectiveness, Rob Jones, will deliver a keynote on ‘how to engage your team and deliver optimal performance.’ Clive Shepherd from Onlignment and Margaretha Mazura from the European Multimedia Forum will deliver another a keynote address on ‘Closing the digital learning skills gap’.

Clive Shepherd explains why his seminar is one not to miss: “Digital learning technologies have the potential to add enormous value to workplace learning when used appropriately. My seminar explores the e-Virue project, set up to solve the skills gap among learning professionals. I’ll outline how we set about solving this problem by defining the competences required by both generalists and specialists across Europe, and then recommending the most effective ways to bridge the gaps. We’re delighted to share this advice and guidelines with visitors to the World of Learning.”

Representatives from the CIPD and J.P.Morgan are among the experts taking part in a panel discussion on the ‘future of learning’. The seminar programme also includes interesting case studies with Matthew Borg from Acteon delivering a session on ‘learning to take risks – breaking the boundaries of compliance with Channel 4’. Likewise, Dr Richard Hyde from Mind Click will talk about his work with one of Britain’s biggest supermarkets in a session titled ‘A game engine in action – how we lit up fire safety at Tesco’.

The fringe seminars take place alongside a renowned conference which is at the heart of the World of Learning event. Open to delegates, the comprehensive conference provides valuable insight into the key issues facing L&D, from developing resilience, talent management, gamification, to the use of storytelling and ensuring L&D drives business growth.

“Our exciting programme of free fringe seminars focuses on a variety of specialist topics around the main conference themes”, explains Andrew Gee, Senior Project Manager for the World of Learning. “Visitors can really enhance their skill set and ensure they are up to date with the latest trends and products.”

The seminars and conference sit alongside an exhibition which includes several interactive areas where visitors can receive hands-on, practical advice. These include the Technology Test Drive area, enabling visitors to test the latest innovations. Ask the Expert workshops offer valuable one on one advisory sessions, while the Experiential Learning Zone delivers a series of interactive bite-sized skill sessions on key areas including emotional intelligence.
